Do I have to be a member of your church or denomination to attend?
These studies are open to anyone, of any religious persuasion, who is interested in discovering Biblical principles upon which to build a strong, Christ-centered marriage that will last a lifetime.
How much Bible knowledge do we need?
This beginner-friendly study is open to all levels of understanding as we explore the Bible together.
How about our religious backgrounds?
Participants come with a wide range of religious background. Some may have been in a church setting for as long as they can remember, while others may have little or no exposure to church or the Bible.
What are the group dynamics?
Our Bible studies all have four simple rules --
1) Everyone is invited to speak ... but no one is expected to
Our Bible studies are interactive rather than simply a "talking head" teaching only format. That said, please know that while we do encourage and invite participation from everyone, we do not expect everyone to participate. We do ask that questions and statements be brief so that others can participate if they feel like doing so.
2) Everyone is invited to pray ... but no one is expected to
We open and close each large group study with prayer and, just as with rule #1, anyone who wants to pray is encouraged to do so but no one will be expected to. We do ask that the prayers focus on the subject matter discussed that study session.
3) Everything discussed in the group setting stays within the group
We do not expect anyone to volunteer any personal, embarrassing or delicate insights. But, should someone desire to be vulnerable within the group setting, it is important that no conversations that include personal information be shared outside the group.
4) There are no dumb questions or reflections
Our Bible studies encourage questions and discussions without fear of criticism. This can create a safe space for participants to express their thoughts and uncertainties. As a group, we will respect where everyone is coming from, therefore there are no dumb questions or insights. (Plus, the chances are pretty good that "dumb" question may be on many minds but no one was bold enough to share it!)
What is the format of each meeting?
First 10 minutes: Icebreaker Activity and Recap
Begin with a light and engaging icebreaker activity.
Check in on how everyone is doing
Include a brief discussion of the previous session's key points.
Next 30-40 minutes: Scripture Exploration
Introduce the week's theme and selected Bible passages relating to the topic.
Encourage participants to share insights, interpretations and ask questions.
Next 15 minutes: Couple Discussion
Probably the most impactful part of the study, time for the couples to interact with each other directly as they discuss how they can apply the principles learned to their daily lives.
Last 5 minutes: Closing Thoughts and Homework
Summarize key takeaways from the discussion.
Provide information on the next week's agenda.
Assign light homework for the next session.
Fellowship time with coffee and snacks
